MWCT is now our official Local Delivery Partner
The last official event during Gaynor's recent visit to Malawi was to meet with Leonard Sefu, the Director of National Parks and Wildlife, and sign an addendum to the existing Concession.
The short document confirmed that the Concession rested with Project African Wilderness Trust, and that their local delivery partner was the Mwabvi Wildlife and Community Trust, or MWCT.
This low key event was a major point in the life of MWCT and marks our work with the local community in a very formal way. While the local delivery team, led by Barry, takes on the detail of the conservation programme and the ecotourism, the MWCT membership is to be grown to take on full responsibility and control of the community programmes. These include training and employment skills, local health and education programmes and business development.
PAW Trust and MWCT have accomplished a great deal in a short time - building and opening the lodge, adding many kilometres of game roads and fire roads, creating the solar water hole and adding to the water supply system are just a few milestones.
The PAW Trustees take their hats off to the team at Mwabvi and look forward to helping the local Trust flourish.
